Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I could eat the taco salad every day! The bowl does not have that greasy disgusting taste. Tastes freshly fried. I only wish that there was a bit more lettuce, but it's still all delicious! I end up eating the whole thing every time, even when I'm not hungry. The last time I came in, I was with a huge party. There ended up being a couple of mix-ups, but our waitress never batted an eye, just fixed the mistakes. And no charge for over X number of people.

You always know when a taqueria is going to be good when the chips and salsa are delicious. Nothing worse than stale, hard, bad chips. Not La Hacienda! The chips were crispy and light. I go the carnitas quesadilla, which included guacamole and sour cream. Tasty stuff! My husband got the enchilada suiza with a chile rellenos. It was so much food, but because it was so good, he got through most of it. Service was pleasant and quick. Good Mexican food stop!

This place really feels like eating at home in MX. Music, people and even the paintings are very Mexican. Food is great. No Tex Mex

We will not be coming back again- we all got food poisoning! We ordered take out on 6/6/15 (2 burritos and camarones a la diabla and 2 horchatas) and my husband, daughter and myself all got food poisoning. The food tasted fine and looked like it was cooked through. Unfortunately, there must be sanitation issues. This used to be one of our favorite Mexican spots when we moved up here 5 years ago and now we've gotten sick from their food twice in the past year. Never going back. Beware!

Ordered a super burrito which supposed to come with a sauce. They wrapped it give it to me in a to go bag which I didn't ask as to go. There were several people inside eating their food every n though its past 9 which they supposed to close. When I asked for a sauce I was told it does not come with it when its to go order, well I didn't order to go and paid extra for the sauce... The answer I get is you ordered to go.... Next....

I just moved to the area and thought... Great, an authentic mexican restaurant in my neighborhood! Looked at 10 or so positive reviews and decided to give them a shot. I was a bit apprehensive because there were only 3 diners inside, all at one table. I figured I wouldn't let that deter me even though it was a bit past 7p. I was a bit surprised that they don't make their own chips (i asked). They were good but they heat them up out of a giant plastic bag. I decided to go with a simple dish that's hard to screw up... Chicken fajitas, black beans, rice, side of guacamole... One word, Flavorless! Everything was BLAND. Chicken had no flavor... Don't understand how or why no seasoning at all on the meat. It tasted as if they boiled it in plain water although it was grilled? Guacamole needed a ton of help... I added lime and table salt. The black beans had a can taste with no salt or anything, bland! I'm not big on re seasoning cooked food but it needed it! The Best thing on the menu was the modelo especial...it came cold with a chilled glass. My friend ordered the fried burrito, bland! The only reason I'm writing a review it's because if I would have read one or two honest reviews...I might have used better judgement in choosing a place to eat. Service was pleasant! Bland was the theme of the night.

Yum yum yum. No frills but classic authentic Mexican! Had chicken burrito and it was delicious! Will be back!

I day dream about their chicken tortilla soup. To this day I have yet to find a better soup! I lived in the San Rafael area in 2013 and went here often. I now live in Los Angeles and wish I could have it delivered down here!! Try it! You won't be disappointed...and send me some..!!!
(5)Selena L.
I like the food here, everything is fresh. The taco salad is good as well as the tacos and sopes. The green salsa is to die for! They are fast and looks like the did a little remodel because the bench seats are more comfortable :)

I live down the street and eat at this place about 3 times a month. I felt compelled to tell the cooks tonight every time I come I enjoy the food. Then I thought I should put it on Yelp so more people could know. Then I noticed a lot of bad reviews. I read most of them and the main complaint seem to be people saying it was too expensive or bad location. I just had two glasses of coke, three enchiladas, salad, beans, rice and two bowls of chips with salsa for $17. That is a pretty good price for a dinner. Every bite of food is always good. There may be things that people don't like but it does not mean it is a bad restaurant. There is probably something you like at another restaurant that other people do not like but it is not worth a bad review. If the service is bad then say so or if there is bugs in the food sure leave a bad review but not just because you didn't think the food was to your level of tastiness. As for the location being next to the freeway, you saw it was next to a freeway and should have moved on instead of stopping just to complain about it. My review is I love the food here and it's more than I can eat for the money that I pay.

La Hacienda is quick and good, as in call a order in and its ready in 5 minutes quick. Super Streak burrito if you are wondering what to get.

Out of all the authentic Mexican restaurants that I have tried out, this one has been defiantly the best. I love the food, and their portions (for a fairly good price) and since the first time I've went there, I've been coming there for years. The staff is very sweet, I believe the food is delicious and the atmosphere is perfect for me. I'd recccomend it for people who really do enjoy authentic Mexican food (better tasting in my opinion) for cheaper prices than Fastfood burrito chains like Chipotle and High Tech Burrito.
(5)Candice W.
Have been here a few times and liked it. The burritos are huge and the ingredients taste fresh. Service is very fast, chips delivered to the table as you sit down, clean. Ate there last night and I did notice a little change. The music was much louder than before and it felt a little uncomfortable. The wait staff seemed like they were a little, well I hate to use the word afraid, but something was off. Food was tasty but again, wasn't the same as it was even a month ago. Not sure if it is new management? They have had to hire (according to the sign) a few different positions in the last 2 months so I don't know. May give them one more try. Terra Linda Safeway receipts have a coupon on the back so even better deal
(3)Steven D.
Great restaurant, never had an issue with the place, food is always prepared perfect.

This place sucks and I would probably receive better service and food at Taco Bell. I have tried this place out maybe 3 times since I have moved to the area and it has been 3 times too many. I have eaten in the restaurant once and ordered pick up twice and I can honestly say that service all around was a joke. I have tried the super chicken quesadilla and this was the only saving grace from here. The super carne burrito was not very good..at all. The ingredients did not taste fresh such as the salsa or tomato was very runny and the burrito itself was barely warm. The Super nachos was probably the worst nachos I have ever had from any Mexican establishment/taco truck. On top of the bad food the staff is very standoffish and non-friendly (almost like they hate working there but there uncle forced them to come in and work). Lastly the prices at this place is way too high and charging $13-15 for nachos is utterly ridiculous. There are way better taquerias in Marin that deserve my money.

I like La Hacienda very much the food is good, on my most recent visit to this place I ordered a side of Guacamole, it was really good very creamy with tomatoes onions I just add a little bit of lime juice and it was excellent. One observation on this order I only get 3 chips with my guacamole order I have to ask 2 times for chips over all very good. On the drinks we ordered 3 fountain drinks one agua fresca the agua fresca was really good tamarind very fresh but the sodas taste really bad they change it for can sodas but still if you know that it is something wrong with you soda machine don't serve them. After I ordered the Camarones a la Diabla, here one observation because the way that my waitress executed this order I know something was going to be wrong. I ASK TO BE MILD ON THE SAUCE. She was a Spanish lady I do speak Spanish I say very clear LA SALSA DE MIS CAMARONES ME GUSTARIA K NO PICARA MUCHO. When she bring my shrimps they where really spicy. I do not eat the sauce neither the beans or salad I have to eat my 6 shrimps yes 6 shrimps total, when I finish my 6 shrimps at this I point I was not able to feel my face because it was really spicy. Very funny you think. We'll my visit was going to be great except for this issues. A one more thing the service can improve a little bit I do not like to eat my dessert with my dirty food plates on the table. For dessert I ordered the sopapilla is a fried flour tortilla with cinnamon and honey I ask my waitress what kind of ice cream she have the answer was " one the has many colors" , me my mom wife and daughter where like what kind of ice cream is that. The next thing I know I have my sopapilla served with all my dirty plates on the table, my daughter do not eat a piece of the dessert. I give to La Hacienda two stars because the guacamole. the service can improve and I hop it does because I like you guys just some more knowledge of what are you selling will be a plus. I know is not a fine dining place but is no need to be to give a good service.

This place was great a few years ago but they've really gone down recently. For one, they've jacked up their prices so that now they're more expensive than other taquerias in the area, many of which are better than this one. Most of their wait staff is very cold and stand offish and seem to really not enjoy being there, much less interact with their customers. Don't even try asking them for anything special or different on your order, or they'll find some way to mess it up. If you ask for light ice in your soda, they'll just completely fill the glass with ice and put in a few drops of soda. If you ask to have bell peppers added to your burrito, they'll bring you a burrito that's packed with bell peppers instead of meat. Once when I was there, my brother and I both wanted take-out boxes for our burritos, but our waitress wouldn't go near us and was just hanging out gossiping with her coworkers. So we got up and went to the front desk to ask them, and then our waitress hurriedly ran past us, went to our table to grab our burritos and throw them away. Keep in mind that we've been going to this place for years and have always given them good tips, yet somehow we're still treated like we aren't welcome here. The food itself isn't even that great. It used to be, but now their burritos taste watered-down and half of the ingredients are cold. The real kicker, though, is the last couple of times we went there, we got food poisoning. At first we gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was something else, but when we both got horrible staff infections the last time, it became clear that this place doesn't give a crap about sanitation. Don't spend your money here. There are better, cheaper and friendlier taquerias in the area.
(1)Tiffany M.
Decent Mexican, decently priced. Service is great, though!
(3)Drew M.
Great Mexican food, huge portions and fair prices. There are a lot of options in Marin but the hacienda is legit. You won't get a curry tofu borrito like high tech but you will get delicious carnitas.
(4)Izzy A.
I'm not Mexican. Get over it and stop looking down your nose at me or sniggering behind my back. With the exception of one young waitress (who is actually very sweet), the rest are miserable and most unhelpful. Food is just OK, though I always regret it later.

La Hacienda's tagline "Real Mexican Food," is straight forward and served up with truth. As an avid Mexican food junkie and a real Mexican myself, I have nothing but respect and a salivating mouth at the thought of this establishment. "Real Mexi" as I like to call it, is a hole in the wall and literally a few feet away from the freeway. It is surrounded by fast food losers and old furniture stores. It's a place that truly redefines "diamond in the rough." The less than ritzy location is made up for in spades with the endless stream of chips, in house green salsa and the best damn cheese enchiladas a human could ever concoct. The service is wonderful, the food is fantastic and the location makes you question what else you should stop judging based on face value. La Hacienda recently opened up a more aesthetically desirable location in Sausalito for the faint of heart, but nothing can or ever will surpass the original. San Rafael La Hacienda continues to be a weekly stop for me and my closet friends since 2005 and at this rate nothing will change that.
(5)Debbie R.
Stopped here on my way home a couple times over a few years. Last time was two years ago and it was fantastic. Thought about it often and had the opportunity to stop again today. NEVER again. We waited 45 min for our food 'because of some mix up' and when we did get our food it was horrible. The chicken mole enchiladas were lukewarm, soup was greasy, tamale was worst we ever had. And then the restroom was completely disgusting. Not sure what happened to this place but it's off my list forever.
(1)Mercedes M.
Not sure what's with the meager 3 star average. I found the food to be great, good quality, and the service was fast and friendly. Also, I didn't spend 3 hours on the toilet after eating here, so I'll definitely go back!
(4)Jennifer R.
My favorite fish tacos! I've tried pretty much everything on the menu, but the fish tacos are my favorite. This is real mexican food, not tex-mex. Friendly service, large portions, and decent prices.
(4)Mel B.
La Hacienda is on the other side of the freeway from the Marin Civic Center so when I'm in the mood for some "Real Mexican Food" for lunch this is my spot. The food is alright, nothing spectacular. But I have yet to try their giant Burrito because I'm a little intimidated. There's nothing worst than being at work, in a small area, then the mexican beans starts to kick in. Overall the people are very nice and they have quick service. They also have an array of selections and a nice outside seating area.
(3)Charlotte M.
Cheap, fast, tasty food. I love the shredded chicken flautas and cheese enchiladas. Great for take out as well. Yummy margaritas!
(4)Cake M.
I am consistently disappointed by this place. Look, I am not expecting culinary revelations next to the Mighty 101, which thunders by and if you close your eyes really tight, you could maybe pretend it's the ocean (or.....more aptly......a traffic tsunami). But seriously........this is San Rafael. Marin. I expect at least okay Mexican food. And generally it's been, well, OK. The burritos are massive, I will give them that. And the chips are hot and tasty and the salsa is spicy. I think it's rather overpriced for what it is, though (average $12/plate, not including bevvies). But today I had the worst fish taco experience ever. Here's what I got: about two anemic ounces of fish, sorta grilled, sorta fried, topped by about six ounces of pico de gallo (and I hate pico de gallo). No crema, no cabbage, no lovely fluffy pillows of golden fried seafood delight. Clearly, I had nothing coming. Here's the kicker: our bill came to $19.22. We put $25 on the bill plate. The waitress never returned with our change or receipt; just assumed we were tipping her 26% and went on about her business. When I saw her polishing silver, I got up and asked the nice guy waiter to please bring our change and RECEIPT, which he did. Promptly. Needless to say, she got a $2 tip. And that was generous. WTF?
(1)Sandra H.
Great authentic food. It was hot and fresh. The service was fantastic. Comfortable and clean. Great atmosphere too!
(4)Monica B.
We've been eyeing this place from the freeway when we pass by so instead of going to Chipotle, I suggested we try this place out. So glad we did!!! The food is excellent and huge portions
(4)Sara F.
This place has excellent tacos de cabeza..Wow, still reeling from the yumminess. The carnitas here are extra crispy and great in a taco with thier spicy red chile sauce. Their salsas are fresh and delicious. The owner and staff are always welcoming and very friendly. Lunch here is perfect if you are on the run or if you have a group. Their tacos de lengua were gone by the time I got there, so they must have been da bomb diggity as well.
(3)Sergio H.
This place has good service but the tacos are small with barley any meat served a little on the over price if you ask me..
(2)Spencer H.
Always get a good effort and good service her. Food is all good, better than most.
(4)Jessica T.
Working close to the area where pickins' are already slim, I still prefer to pass on this restaurant. However, I am forced to participate because they allow groups. I've found one dish that I can live with - nachos. And I"m over that too.
(1)Coral S.
The #11 Giant Burrito combination plate (with rice & beans). Of the choice of several kinds of meat, we had a beef burrito and a pork burrito. Each was VERY filling and of excellent quality. The non-greasy chips were also of exceptional quality. If you're looking for really good Mexican food at very reasonable prices, and you don't care about fancy surroundings, this is the place. One warning worth mentioning is that La Hacienda wasn't easy to locate. Google Maps failed to get us there without lots of turning around and searching. Three telephone calls to the restaurant didn't get us there directly either, but at least got us close enough that we didn't have to wander around long to stumble upon it.
(4)Emmanuel B.
Very friendly staff. A good local Mexican restaurant. Standard issue, but not franchisey. Satisfied my Mexican craving. The people keep me coming back. Thanks!
(4)Marcus K.
You know. Every time I go, this place is better than I remenber. The veggie chimichanga and beef mole burritos were both excellent. Mole had a subtle choclaty flavor, not bland like many moles. Chips were warm and crispy. Chimichanga was crisp and fresh and lasted me for dinner and next day's lunch. Yum Yum.
(5)Lost B.
Sorry to rain on everyone's parade but this mexican food is for people who dont know any better. The pros: Clean place Friendly waitress Food came quick the green sauce was good The cons Worst vegetarian burrito I have ever had in my life. I dont say that lightly. The tortilla was soggy and covered in a tastless red sauce. Waitress didnt know what the difference was between a regular burrito and a super. And she is the one that aske me if I wanted the reg or super. She looked at the menu and said ' it has sour cream cheese and avacado. okay. I would have hated to see the burrito if I didnt order the super. The burrito was lettuce and sour cream with a few pinto beans that seemed to have accidently fallen in. There were about 12 little shreds of cheese. There was a huge bug flying around that looked like weird moth but HUGE. Spouse ordered chicken burrito and they said it was bland. Sorry.
(2)Jasmine A.
The first time was okay. I ordered 3 Chicken Tacos to go. The second time I came here I ordered a Super Burrito with Carne Asada. I started eating it and it just didn't taste right. Then I had my Food Scientist friend try it and to quote him "it tastes like they tried to mask the taste of the beef with sauce..like the beef has gone bad." I ate a little more and gave up. When the waitress came by to take away our dishes I had to assure her that I wanted to throw the rest away. I'll pass.
(1)Adam E.
Been there 5 times in 2013 and found food to be excellent every time. Very affordable as well.
(4)Amanda M.
This is our go to place. We actually call it "Real Mexican Food" because that is what the sign says and that is what we thought it was called for years. Great grilled chicken without the weird bits you find at some places.
(4)Christine R.
Our favorite mexican restaurant in San Rafael...it tastes authentic. Food is superb, hearty, and always served extremely hot. The patio is laid back to hang out when weather permits, doesn't always have to be a sunny day. I prefer it outside, as the kids won't disturb customers inside, and they can hang out. Most taquerias in Marin are filled w/ healthy contents, as this one actually has chimichangas and burritos filled w/ caloric foods unlike a burrito filled with lettuce and brown rice only. Try to go there as often as we can or find a reason to!
(5)Horace A.
There seems to have been a decline in quality at La Hacienda over the past year or so, unfortunately. Also, it is worth noting that in my experience, 5 of the last 6 take out orders I've gotten from here have been fouled up one way or another. They simply do not take into account any special request, such as "hold the sour cream" or "no beans". You will get it they way they want, not the way you want. I still like the people and the place and the food is pretty good, no great shakes, but decent. I'll still go and eat there from time to time, so I can send the order back if it is wrong, but won't get a take out order again.
(3)Robin R.
Will eat here if desperate, but id rather drive the extra distance to Picantes...even though their chile verde was decent their rice was bland and the cheese was overpowering in the burrito. I was pulling pieces out just to taste everything else. Not to mention, I asked for a side of sour cream and they told me $1.40 im sorry but I can get a tub of that for the same price. A teaspoon for that much is crazy.
(2)Reggie R.
This is a hole in the wall but has great authentic Mexican food. The Chile Verde and the Steak Picado are fabulous -- like homemade. It's a great value too. The portions are incredibly large...each would easily feed two people in most cases. The wait staff is very friendly.
(4)Alfonso L.
Stopped here on a rainy afternoon for a late lunch. i was surprised that they didnt have a list of lunch specials since I didnt want to pay $10+ for huge portions of combination plates slathered with cheese and sour cream. Yes, it's that kind of place: round up all the gringos and ply them with so-so chips and just when they're getting filled up with that, then bring them a macho burrito that's as big and thick as their arms! So I decided to take a risk and order something that you don't see on every Mex restaurant menu: albondigas. The way I grew up it's a hearty meatball soup, with vegetables with a beef broth base. It's served sometimes with some rice and tortilla. This version was a salty concoction literally with layers and layers of oil residue on top. I mean, it was only barely edible. It looked like the cooks had just opened up a can of Veg All and dumped the not-so-flavorful chunks of broccoli and cauliflower to make the soup thicker. Cauiflower chunks in a soup, really? There was also a wild red color to the soup, as if there was a splash of chile powder added which it really didn't need. For all the veggies that were there that outweighed the meatballs, there was curious absence in the other unmistakable ingredient in this dish: mint, or yerba buena. So you'd think the centerpiece, the meatballs, would save the dish. These were the huge downfall. They were mealy and fatty and probably the explanation for the Exxon Valdez/BP oil flood that were at the upper layers of this soup. The meat simply was of cheap quality or else they committed the sin of offering ground pork in their meatballs. I mean, who does this? The meat has to be beef, and somewhat leaner, like 80/20 because otherwise the fat will seep out and overpower the rice that will bind the meatballs together. The meatballs and the dish were an epic failure. For those in this tiny cul-de-sac area, my advice is to drive up the street and grab a root beer float at A&W.
(1)Crystal R.
Large plates, cheap prices and flavor all around. Tucked quietly on Redwood Hwy by an Italian joint, A&W and McDonald's, La Hacienda is a little tricky to find, but when you do... oh boy! We were greeted with Salsa and warm chips as soon as we sat down. Be careful because the red Salsa definitely has a kick to it... hot hot hot. I ordered a Horchata and the Carnitas taco combo plate which came with rice, beans and a salad (I was playing it safe that day). The Horchata was yumz in my tumz, though I wish it did have a few speckles of rice at the bottom, but it was good none the less. My plate of food was rather large for only $7 and the Carnitas were well flavored and crispy, just how I like it. The bf ordered a Shrimp Fajita plate that was almost twice the size of mine for $11 and it was tasty. I don't think he left a drop of food on this plate. We were able to witness a Mas MACHO burrito, which was ordered by a teenage girl who I over heard talking about fitting into a dress 5 minutes before the plate of food came out. I don't think she knew what she was getting into.... the burrito was the size of my head. She ate about a quarter of it so she probably could fit into her dress later lol. The restaurant is small, but very homely. Great food and good service for the price! I'll be back to try out other combos. Chile Rellenos sound really good right now... yumz!
(4)Chester H.
I was initially impressed by this place, but after hitting up other taquerias in the county, I've stopped going here. First of all, it's crazy busy every time I go here. Second, the burritos are inconsistent. A great taqueria should be able to put food together in a formula that comes out excellent every time. I get the impression that this place is so slammed that they just slop food together as fast as possible, not caring about the exacting standards that a truly awesome burrito must be constructed with. Go to Taqueria Las Calandrias and witness the power of a fully functioning super burrito!
(2)Denise C.
It's been a year since the last meal here, and the experience was quite different on this visit. As was noted by other reviewers, the portions are generous, the prices fair and the atmosphere comfortable. It was a cool mid-afternoon and the heated patio was available and being used by another couple. Including them and another family, we were the only ones in the restaurant. A very kind server brought average chips and salsa (nothing derogatory meant by that, btw - they just weren't exceptional), along with a menu. She took my order but sadly, she must have left on a break for I did not see her again. Soon after, a different person arrived with my burrito accompanied by the usual warning that the plate (plastic) was hot. I touched the outside to slightly adjust its position and discovered it wasn't hot on the sides, or underneath for that matter, just barely warm. To confirm, I cut into the burrito and the inside was at room temperature. Granted, there is some cooling to be expected when adding sour cream, lettuce, tomatoes and guacamole but there should have been some warmth to the meat and tortilla. Sadly, there wasn't. Politely I asked the server if he would please send it back for a reheat, which he graciously did. Two or so minutes later it reappeared on the same not-hot plate looking shiny on the outside but the inside was still tepid. The server didn't return so it was time to pay the bill, leave the burrito behind, and go elsewhere to eat. Yes, I should have gone back to the kitchen and tried again, but the taqueria near me never has this problem and I was irked by that point. To be fair, I'll give this place another go after the holidays.
(2)Amy S.
Their chips and salsa are yummmm-warm and the salsas are flavorful and not tooo hot. We ordered taco (hard shell) and tamale plate. Delish and big portions. Really solid Mexican food. The outside said "real mexican food" kind of comical... but they did have menudo and things like that. Food was good, service was good but charging for drink refills @ 2 bux a glass they should do without.
(3)Michael K.
This place used to be a go to for my wife and I. Their food, service, and prices were all rock solid. Then they stopped letting us eat on the veranda with our dog. Then the wait-staff was replaced with lazies. Then the prices were raised. Then we stopped going. The food is just as good as ever though - probably.
(2)Tom S.
With a front seat view of the southbound traffic Hwy 101, this place serves really good Mexican food for bargain prices. Clean roomy dining room plus a covered outdoor patio. Not fancy, formica tables, paper napkins, cheap silverware, plastic beer mugs. Bambie had the fresh fish (Not Frozen!) filet with beans rice salad with avocado for $8. I had the diced chicken breast in tomatillo sauce for $8. Most expensive item is the breaded shrimp dinner for $10. Portions are very generous. Bambie's filet covered most of a 15 inch wide plate. Only minor criticism is that the meats were a little over salted. Family owned. Service is fast & cheerful. Recommended!

La Hacienda Taqueria is a surprising mix between a neighborhood taqueria and actual Mexican Restaurant. The place has some nice booths and is a good sit down option for the neighborhood. The staff was friendly and very attentive. While relatively inexpensive, the food isn't so mindblowing that you would drive out of the way for it. The taco plate ($8.95) proved to be a lot of food (mostly beans and rice- which were underwhelming) and was the epitome of quantity of quality. The tacos (a better value at $2.45 each) had a large portion of meat on them but the pollo asado was overcooked and somewhat dry and rubbery . The carnitas tasted off- like it was cooked in old oil. In the end they are much more impressive than the tacos at the Sonoma Taco Shop down the road, but that's not saying much. The salsas were standard- a slightly spicy old-school well-blended red , and a tasty green tomatillo. The chips may have been the highlight of the trip- they were fresh, not oily at all and served warm. If you're able to drive a mile further- check out Taqueria San Jose in Central San Rafael- the food is much fresher and still authentic.

Yummy food that's cheap and relatively fast. I higly recommend the camarones con crema, delicious shrimp in creamy sauce with bean and tortilla.... Tiny bites of goodness.... Also orgasmincally delish is the chimichanga....seriously people, its a fried burrito. Yum.

The La Hacienda in Sausalito is a lot better! The food is tastier and less salty. Service us much quicker, but maybe it's because they seem to do a lot less business.

I am new to the area and was craving some good Mexican food. A co-worker told me to try this place and I haven't looked back. From the chips n salsa to the huge portions to the yummy food this place rocks! Also, you can call ahead and pick up your food if you want to get back home and grub while watching Family Guy... :)

Good food at decent prices. I was quite impressed with the three different salsa cups that they gave me, but somehow I felt that only one of the cups was made fresh, the rest were most likely mixed with canned tomato and canned green chili. I got the chicken fajitas and had enough to take back with me for the next day. The tortillas were decent as well. Over all the place was good.

I always come here for brunch after my rowing practice on Saturday. Their service is spectacular, constantly filling your chips and beverages without an utterance of a reminder. Their food is very good; the chile rellenos, chile verde and fajitas are all really good! Food: A-/B+ Service: A+ Atmosphere: B+

Huge delicious burritos (recommend carne asada or al pastor), decent service, and nice comfy atmosphere here. Also the prices are quite good.

Another of my neighborhood haunts. I know the owner, the owners son & the rest of the kids. So when I go I get a smile and a hand shake but that's all. Everyone gets the same amount of food and great service. Huge portions, good prices and fantastic food makes this place that I will continue to patronize for years to come. Cocktail De Cameron is fantastic. The best part is they are open early on the weekends for breakfast...Huevos Ranchero's yumminie

It's really a shame this place left a bad taste in my mouth, since I really like the food. Granted, it's not anything gourmet - just good authentic Mexican food that is very tasty and probably not super healthy. I've been there three times, since it's right around the corner from my home. Each time I've been there, the service has been as if I killed someone in the family and am suddenly demanding a burrito as payment for the effort. I thought it was just a one-time thing, but every time it has been excruciating. And when I pay for something that isn't exactly even dollar amounts, I don't want to have to ask for my change back. Twice. I don't think I'll be going back there, as I think Mi Pueblo in San Anselmo is the best Mexican food in Marin. I really wanted to like La Hacienda. But I don't.

I am a huge fan of burritos and an even bigger fan of fast service. This place scores high marks in both categories. In addition to the delicious burritos they serve I have had the great experience of not having a single order be mishandled or incorrectly filled. The waitstaff is fairly prompt and quite courteous and the atmosphere is pretty basic inside but during nice weather the outdoor patio can be quite nice for an afternoon break. Decent menu with large combination plates and massive drinks.

I've been getting burritos here for a long time now (plus their chimichanga is pretty good too). Yesterday I grabbed a burrito to go and noticed there were no chips. The girl at the counter told me that the owner decided not to give chips to go any more and that if I wanted them it would be another $0.75. I wouldn't care but I think this is part of a trend I've been seeing at this place. Service has gone downhill as attitude has gone up. Really sad. I won't be going there as often.

The food is pretty good, I usually go with a combination like an enchilada and a taco, or sometimes the super nachos. The absolute best thing on the menu is the camarones con crema though. The food usually gets there pretty quick but sometimes the service can be a little slow if you're waiting for a refill or something. Other than that, I'm a fan.

We stopped by here when traffic on the 101 was at a standstill and we were hungry. While the place has a somewhat "casual" atmosphere, we enjoyed it (it was kind of like being on vacation in a 3rd world country). The food though was really first rate Mexican food. I ordered a prawn enchilada which was one of the best I have ever had (they used chunks of large prawns as opposed to bland small ones). The burrito my colleague ordered was as big as her head. The chips were plenty and warm and crunchy. Prices were about $10 per head as well.

This place is great for Marin. There is flavor and spice. The hot sauce is hot and they have jalepenos. Yum.

Great food, healthy portions, low price = Great Place! I have been going to this place at least 3-4 a month for the past year and teh food is great! Best kept secret in San Rafael!

Great food, with accommodating and friendly staff. Steady stream of locals eating. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as eat-in and take-out options.

Some of the best taco's in Marin...Authentic style with great salsa's on the side......

Gotta love cheap yummy Mexican food! It's close to home and the food is great. The meatball soup and the ceviche tostada are amazing!!! It's a great place to grab a bite to eat. The restaurant is cozy and tucked away and the wait staff is very nice.

Had dinner there last night and I'd give it a "C-". They wouldn't make it in Fresno, let alone Hermosillo, Sonora, MX.

We went here the other day for lunch. Yes, the portions were big and the prices were reasonable, but WOW! We ended up paying way to much for "refills" of the lemonade and sodas we ordered. A bit tricky on their part, if you ask me. I paid $6.75 for the chilaquiles (ehh ok), and then $1.95 twice for the lemonade, same for my husband. Not going back. Sorry. I do not agree with offering to get us "more refills", only to then jack up the bill that way.

Everytime we're in town we come here for at least one meal. My honey tells me that most of the stuff is homemade here. The fish tacos are good. Flautas I can pass on. The next time we're in the area I'll try something different. =)

The "Mas Macho" Burrito is the biggest, and one of the tastiest I've ever had. Slathered with sourcream, guac, and salsa. If you're not a big dude, split it with someone. Carne Asada, Carnitas, oh man, oh man

This place has the best tortilla chips of any mexican type restaurant I've eaten at in Marin. Crisp, hot, and fresh, these chips are delicious. The food is reasonably priced, and the portions are humongous! I love enchilada and taco plate, and you can substitute black beans if you are so inclined......I wish the restaurant was a little better maintained, but the servers all help out, which can be great. Don't forget to eat the green salsa, it is divine.

Eh. I was not impressed in the least. The vegetarian burrito my husband got was pretty good and he was psyched they offered black beans (not just pinto like most Mexican places), but the fajitas that I got were less than mediocre. The chicken was a little funky and drenched in sauce. The homemade tortillas were the best part and pretty much the only thing I liked. I should have known this place was just so-so when I walked in and there were mostly gringos.

very good tasting food

This place has some pretty good food. Chips and salsa are a nice starter. I always seem to get the macho chimichanga that has the works. Prices are a little more than I would like, especially if you have lived in the East Bay.

This burrito place was a regular part of the lunch rotation at work for a while, and it resulted in me getting horribly out of shape! It is that good. I came in here on my own after driving by it many times on the freeway. After bringing some coworkers here, word has spread, and the place is almost always crowded at lunch with people from our company. The food here is cheap and the portions are enormous. The chips and salsa are both fresh and good. Unfortunately, as a result of Yelp, I did discover Mi Puebla in San Anselmo, which I would rate a bit better than here, but the parking and location is far better here.

Definitely not the best burrito (especially when compared to Gordo burritos), however it's decent for Marin which in general has a poor food selection. I agree with other comments, the chips are delicious.
